Fashion can sometimes go beyond just designs. Rahul Mishra proved just that, as he showed his collection, The Lotus Effect, at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, to end the second day on an emotional note.

From the start, the bar was set high after Mishra’s International Woolmark Prize win, with a customized video presented mid-show, dedicated to his experience at Milan. Matching all expectations, the designer showed a signature muted palette with focus on intricate and painstakingly delicate detailing, all hand-crafted and handwoven.

Designer Rahul Mishra showed showcased his collection on Day 2 of the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

The collection was an extension of his Woolmark line, and saw the use of Merino wool in ingenious ways. Model Sonalika Sahay kickstarted the show wearing a sheer skirt and hand-embroidered jacket amid a beautiful runway setup which was adorned with miniature architectural paper cutouts, by Sachin George Sebastian.

Inspired by the 'Eight petal white lotus, found in the heart of the womb of the world,' the collection saw innovative use of wool including tie & dye treatment and re-interpretation of florals.  Like the dresses, the separates were also very wearable with motifs inspired by nature coming together with architectural sights.

The 3D building jacket stood out for its craftsmanship and the shoulders adorned with hand embroidered and handwoven cityscape. Shifts and sheaths, trademark monochrome cape jackets and sheer skirts with pvc panels — there was variety on display. The show concluded on an emotional note as Rahul and his wife, Divya, went off the ramp to personally thank all his friends, contemporaries and supporters, with the former visibly teary-eyed.
