French President Nicolas Sarkozy married Carla Bruni on Saturday at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

His first marriage, in 1982, was to Marie-Dominique Culioli, with whom he has two sons, Pierre and Jean.
He met his second
wife, Cecilia, when, as mayor of the chic Paris suburb of Neuilly, he presided over her marriage to the French entertainer Jacques Martin. Sarkozy and his then-wife became the couple's friends. In 1996 he married Cecilia, with whom he has a son, Louis.
Sarkozy spoke in interviews of his love for Cecilia and the couple posed for photographs in glossy magazines. But in 2005 they separated briefly, and she had a relationship with an advertising executive. There were also rumours that he had had a relationship with a journalist.
The couple reunited in 2006, but Cecilia made relatively few public appearances during her husband's election campaign last year. The couple divorced last October.
Sarkozy surprised the French public by appearing with Bruni and her relatives at the Disneyland resort near Paris in December, at the end of a week when he had been heavily criticised by rights groups and the opposition for inviting Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to Paris. He also took her on holiday to Egypt.
