Twenty five days after he was slapped in public, Nepal's ruling Maoist party chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Tuesday bailed out the youth responsible for the assault.

Padam Kunwar, 25, a former Maoist loyalist from Baglung district, was released from jail after payment of
the bail amount NRs 28,000 (Rs 17,500) by Prachanda to Kathmandu district administration office.

Kunwar who has been in police custody since November 16 when he slapped Prachanda at a Maoist tea-party was sent to prison on Monday after failing to furnish the bail amount.

Though Kunwar thanked Prachanda for the gesture, his brother-in-law Bhim Bharati said that such gesture was not required on the Maoist chief's part.
