A bomb blast ripped through a state-run hospital in the restive Khyber tribal region of northwest Pakistan on Tuesday, injuring a lady health worker, officials said.

The explosive device went off in the office of the National Programme for Health at the Civil Hospital in
Jamrud, one of the main towns in Khyber Agency. The office of the lady health workers is located nearby.

Seman Shinwari, a surgeon for the region, told reporters a lady health worker sustained minor injuries. She was taken to a hospital in Peshawar, the capital of
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, for treatment. Sinwari said her condition was stable.

The building was also damaged in the blast. No group claimed responsibility for the attack but the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, an umbrella organisation of various Islamist militant groups which has bombed dozens of sate-run schools and healthcare centres in the tribal belt over the past few years, is being suspected.
