Two Pakistani MPs entered the country's Parliament carrying weapons, a fellow lawmaker has claimed, prompting interior minister Rehman Malik to order a probe into the matter.

Responding to a point of order raised by lawmaker Ejaz Virk in the national assembly or lower house of
Parliament that two MPs had entered the House with pistols, Malik said an investigation would be conducted into the matter.

The police and paramilitary Pakistan Rangers and Frontier Corps are responsible for external security of Parliament and every person is searched thoroughly before entering the building, he said.

Security agencies will check footage from Parliament's closed circuit TV system to ascertain whether such an incident had occurred, he said.
