‘India feels ignored by Sino-US ties’

India bristles at closer Sino-US ties,’ said the front page of a State-run Chinese newspaper on Friday. The Global Times, an English newspaper affiliated to the Communist Party mouthpiece the People’s Daily, quoted analysts saying that India’s reaction to the new Sino-US joint
statement may demonstrates ‘wariness’ and a ‘fear of being ignored’.

This week, US President Barack Obama ended a four-day State visit to China that culminated in a Sino-US joint statement. And after a decade’s gap the statement named India and Pakistan. “Both sides support the improvement and growth of relations between India and Pakistan,’’ it said. New Delhi reacted tersely by saying that a third-country role in its bilateral relations with Pakistan is not necessary.

“It is reasonable for the US and China, especially China, as India’s neighbour, to pay attention to security conditions in South Asia,” analyst Ma Jiali of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations was quoted saying in the Global Times.
