The UAE would get access to an advanced database of Interpol which holds information about criminals and stolen materials making it one of the first three countries in Asia to be provided with such a facility.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar would be the other countries to gain access to 'Mind and
Find' advanced database project of the Interpol, project manager Spadina Ivanka said.
"The database holds information on 15 million stolen or lost travel documents, including passports, four million stolen vehicles and more than 20,000 wanted criminals in around 125 countries across the world.
"Once a country gets access to the database, its officials at the borders and ports can stop criminals and terrorists," she said.
Delegations from Interpol national central offices in 17 Middle east and North African countries (MENA) met in Abu Dhabi on Monday marking the first meeting of the agency chiefs in the region.
"The UAE has signed 15 extradition agreements and accords with Arab and other countries as well as 10 agreements on legal assistance in criminal issues," said Head of Interpol Department at the Interior Ministry Lieutenant Colonel Ali Salim Al Khayyal at the meeting.
MENA Interpol chiefs discussed issues of crime, car theft in Arabian Gulf countries, drugs, and that related to fighting international terrorism.
