Two fearless explorers are on a grand adventure sailing around the world.
One is a 24-year-old French sailor, Guirec Soudee. And the other is Monique, a hen, who keeps him company.
Through warm or cold weather, the duo has stuck together ever since they began their journey in May 2014 from Canary Islands, Spanish territory near Africa’s north-west coast. Their global voyage has caught the fancy of people across the world and they have managed to build up a close following online.
The two sailors spent four months in Greenland braving the winter without any communication and survived on rice and corn. Monique has surprisingly adapted well to the journey and besides laying eggs, she can be seen skateboarding, surfing, swimming and soaking up the sun.
Soudee says he has found the perfect companion in Monique claiming that compared with people, she doesn’t complain at all.
The French man says they have plans to cross the NorthWest passage in the Artic Ocean. Soudée will be the youngest person to attempt this feat with Monique if they successfully finish the journey. And Monique will be the first hen in the world to do so.
