A series of explosions at a ship breaking yard in Pakistan’s southwest has killed at least 10 labourers and wounded dozens of others on Tuesday.

The blasts rocked an unused oil tanker being dismantled at the Gadani shipbreaking yard in Balochistan province after tanks on the ship caught fire.

More than 100 people were working on the ship at the time and the fate of some 30 workers is unknown, local media reported quoting officials.

More than 25 of the injured have been rescued so far.

Some workers are trapped inside the ship while others who were able to exit from above jumped into the sea, the reports said.

A single fire engine present at the scene has been unsuccessful in putting out the fire, reports said.

Rescuers are transporting the victims to a hospital in Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh province.

Established in the 1970s, Gadani is one of the world’s largest ship breaking yards.
