Mutilation of jawans 'turning point' in Indo-Pak relations: Antony

Hafiz Saeed, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder and 26/11 mastermind, is at it again. In a telephone interview to Reuters on Friday, he predicted violence in Kashmir could get “ugly” and accused India of trying to destabilise Pakistan.

This comes two days after HT wrote, based on an intelligence report, that Saeed was stirring up trouble at the Line of Control (LoC) just a week before the brutal killing of two Indian soldiers in Jammu’s Poonch district. He was inciting Lashkar’s border action teams — which are said to extend a helping hand to Pakistani army regulars — to step up activity along the LoC, the report said.

Continuing his tirade against India, Saeed told Reuters: “They want to escalate the violence to avoid a permanent resolution … This border tension can turn into an ugly situation like a war and we want to avoid it.”

“We don’t want any force to be used or any military operation. But the Indians are opting for the other alternative,” he added. He also denied allegations he’d recently visited Kashmir, potentially to incite action against India.

Saeed accused India of trying to disrupt the peace process and dragging its feet on Kashmir. “This is their usual practice. Betraying the international community and destabilising Pakistan. And that’s what they are doing this time.”

“Whenever the peace process starts, something comes up from the Indian side to disrupt it.”

Saeed went on to blame New Delhi for this week’s bombings in Quetta that left 82 dead. “Whether it’s ethnic problems, provisional unrest, religious target killings and the Sunni-Shia issue, the planning and execution of such attacks have been managed by Indian intelligence agencies,” he said.
