India and the US on Tuesday said their counter-terrorism cooperation will include a new focus on the role of internet in the recruitment and facilitation of terrorist attacks.

A joint communique issued after a meeting between Indian and US officials said the two countries will share information and best practices in responding to the new threat. The communique didn’t mention the Boston bombings -- the suspects used pressure cooker bombs made with downloaded instructions from an al Qaeda publication, Inspire.

But the connection was hard to ignore. Visiting Union home minister SushilKumar Shinde received a detailed FBI briefing on the marathon bombings in Boston on Wednesday.

The joint communique was issued after Shinde’s meeting with the department of homeland security Janet Napolitano in Washington DC on Tuesday.

They reviewed a whole range of continuing cooperation between the two countries on terrorism, flow of illicit finances, counterfeiting and cyber-security.

Shinde also met US attorney general Eric Holder and FBI director Robert Muller.
