Khurshid takes up issue of Sikh marriages with Iran

External affairs minister Salman Khurshid has raised the issues faced by the Sikh community in registering marriages in Iran.

In his meeting with Iran foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Khurshid took up the issue and sought his help in addressing it. The Iran minister said he would look into the matter.

Sikhs in Iran have been complaining about the Iran government not registering their marriages. There are a few hundred Sikhs in Iran. An estimated 3,000 Indians are settled there.

In a bid to boost the dwindling oil imports, Tehran has offered a production sharing agreement to India in one of their oil fields. Iran is offering such an agreement to any country for the first time in 34 years.

Iran has also told India that they could be a "reliable partner in energy security" for India. The sanctions have hit the oil imports from Iran to India.
