Republican candidate Donald Trump refused to say on Wednesday that he would accept the outcome of the November 8 US presidential election, leaving open the possibility he would challenge the ultimate outcome.

In the third and final presidential debate with Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Trump said he would wait to decide whether the outcome was legitimate.

“I will tell you at the time, I will keep you in suspense,” Trump said.

Chris Wallace, host of a Sunday show on Fox news, was the moderator of the debate.

Watch the debate here:

Below are the highlights:

Trump and Clinton make closing statements

Trump: We are going to make America great again and strong again. We cannot take 4 more years of Barack Obama and that’s what you get with her (Clinton).

Clinton: I am reaching out to All Americans because we need everybody to help make pour country what it should be..We need your talents, skills, energy and ambition. I hope you will give me a chance to serve you as your President.

On medicare and social security

Trump: We have to repeal and replace the disaster called ‘Obamacare’. Obamacare has to go

Clinton: We need to put more money in social security trust fund. I want to enhance benefits for ow income workers and women.

Trump: I am going to create tremendous jobs and we are going to bring GDP from 1% to up to 4% and I think we can go higher up to 5% or 6%

To do that, we are taking back our jobs.

We will create an economic machine- the likes of which we have not been seen in many decades.

Clinton: We are going to ask the corporations to pay their fair share. We’ll have what economists call middle outgrowth.

On Aleppo

Clinton: I will defeat ISIS

Trump: We should have never let ISIS happen in the first place. We are outplayed by Putin, Assad and Iran.

Trump: Aleppo was a disaster. What has happened is sad. And a lot of it is because of Hillary Clinton.

If she (Hillary) did nothing, we would have been in a much better shape. She is willing to take in thousands of refugees and many of them may be IS aligned

Clinton: We’ve had millions of people leave Syria. I think we could strike a deal and make it very clear to the Russians and Syrians that this is he best deal that we could make to help Syria.

On ISIS and Mosul

Trump says Bernie Sanders made big mistake by supporting Clinton

Trump: We had Mosul, but when she(Hillary) left and took everybody out,we lost Mosul.

Goal would be to take back Mosul( from ISIS), I know that it will be a tough fight

Iran will be beneficiary of US involvement in Mosul

Clinton: Once again Donald is implying that he didn’t support the invasion of Iraq.

Google Donald Trump- Iraq and you will find sources which say he was in favour of invasion.

We will go after Baghdadi like we went after Bin Laden when you(Trump) were doing celebrity apprentice

On election results:

Trump: Media is so dishonest and corrupt and they are corrupting the minds of the people

I will look at the election result at the time

Clinton: Trump has claimed everything from the FBI to the Emmy’s are rigged

Clinton Foundation

Trump: Clinton Foundation is a criminal enterprise. What happened with the Clinton Foundation in Haiti is a disgrace

Clinton: Clinton Foundation spends 90% of donations for people and I am proud to say this

Wasn’t some of the money (of Trump Foundation) used to settle lawsuits? Moderator questions Trump

Trump: You took money from Saudi Arabia for Clinton Foundation, you talk of women’s rights, they throw gays off buildings

On sexual misconduct allegations

Trump: Nobody has more respect for women than I do. Nobody

(Audience laughs, moderator asks for silence)

Trump: Those stories have been largely debunked. I didn’t even apologise to my wife because I didn’t do anything wrong

Clinton: Donald thinks belittling women makes him bigger.

On jobs and economy

Trump: If you (Hillary) become president, this country is going to be in some mess.

Clinton: I personally believe that the steps that President Obama took saved the economy.

Trump: Our country is stagnant. We’ve lost our jobs, we’ve lost our businesses.

Trump: Her tax plan is a disaster. We will have a massive, massive tax increase under Hillary Clinton’s plan

During President Obama’s regime, we have doubled our national debt. Our jobs are being taken up by the deals that her husband signed. Our jobs have fled to Mexico and other places.

I am going to create new deals, we are gonna cut taxes massively.

Right now, our country is dying at 1% GDP

Clinton: We are going to go where the money is - we will have the wealthy pay their fair share.

When middle class thrives, America thrives. I want to help small businesses, make sure women get equal pay

DonaldTrump’s plan is to create another recession-like situation

On hacking and espionage

Clinton: He’s (Donald) rather believe Vladimir Putin than the country’s security agencies and intelligence:

Trump: I’ve never met Putin, this isn’t my best friend. Putin has outsmarted Obama and her (Hillary) at every single step on the way

Russian govt has engaged in espionage in America. This has come from the highest levels from Russia. Clearly, from Putin himself.

On borders and immigration

Clinton -- ‘My dream is a hemispheric common market with open borders’

Trump: My comprehensive immigration plan, of course, includes border security. I’m introducing a comprehensive immigration reform within the first 100 days.

Clinton: We will have secure borders but we will also have reforms.

Hillary Clinton wanted the wall. But she never gets anything done, so the wall was never built

Trump: We need to have strong borders. It’s the first time border security forces have endorsed a presidential candidate. We have some bad hombres here and we’re going to get them out

Clinton: I think we are both a nation of immigrants and nation of laws.

On abortion

Clinton: I will defend planned parenthood. Donald has said there will be some kind of punishment for women who get an abortion. Abortion is one of the worst possible choices that women and their families have to make

Trump: It’s terrible what Hillary is saying. Because you can take the baby and rip the baby on the last day of the 9th month. And I cannot agree with that

On gun control

Trump: I am very proud to have the endorsement of National Rifle Association.

Clinton: I respect the tradition of gun ownership, but we must have “reasonable regulation

Q: How will you ensure that the second amendment is protected?

Clinton: I support the second amendment but I also believe there needs to be reasonable restrictions

Trump: We need a SC which will uphold the second amendment , which is under siege:

Q: Where do you want to see the Court take the country?

Hillary Clinton: The Supreme Court needs to stand at the side of the US people and not the powerful corporation

Donald Trump: Would appoint conservative, pro-life Supreme Court justices
