A transgender man, who had grabbed headlines for his pregnancy earlier this year, has given birth to a healthy baby boy.
Trystan Reese, 34, and his partner Biff Chaplow, 31, welcomed baby Leo on July 14 in Portland, Oregon, United States.
The couple announced the baby’s birth on Facebook, just the way they had broken the news about Reese’s pregnancy on social media in January.
“Our beautiful baby has been born!!! 9.5 pounds, 21.5 inches. Trystan and baby and doing great, and we are all completely over the moon,” the couple wrote on their Facebook page.
Reese and Chaplow have previously adopted Chaplow’s niece and nephew and Leo is their first biological child.
“Literally the first breath he took and his lungs filling with air and the giant cry he let out was the most amazing experience of my life,” Reese told Global News. “I was completely overwhelmed with love for this tiny human, and for [my partner] Biff for believing in me throughout this process.”
Earlier in March, Reese had shared a video explaining why he chose to carry a baby as a transgender man.
“I think my body is awesome. I feel like it’s a gift to have been born with the body that I did, and I made the necessary changes so that I could keep living in it, both through hormones and through other body modifications,” he said in the video.
The couple had documented their entire pregnancy journey on social media, sharing their emotions and adventures with the world.
This is not the first time a transgender man has given birth. In June, Hayden Cross, 21, became Britain’s first pregnant man to give birth after he conceived by a sperm donor.
