Moscow based Indians on Wednesday came out strongly in support of social activist Anna Hazare's stir for the adoption of the Jan Lokpal bill and handed over a petition to the Indian Mission demanding an effective and transparent system to check corruption in India.

About 80 prominent Indians living in the Russian capital, some of them working for top business companies, gathered in front of the Indian Embassy in downtown Moscow with slogans and placards expressing solidarity with Anna's stir.

In a petition to the Indian Ambassador Ajai Malhotra, which in his absence was received by First Secretary Consular Ritu Mishra, the members of local diaspora wrote: "The Indian community in Moscow takes this opportunity to express its total support to the anti-corruption campaign started by Anna Hazare and the Jan-Lokpal bill".

"We all strongly feel for this issue and also agree that it is high time that some initiative was taken to rid our country of unwanted corruption."

"We are seeing a very strong Social awakening happening in India and we do want an effective and transparent system to check corruption and pave the way for a clean and honest India," Vivek Goswami, one of the conveners of the anti-corruption event told PTI.
