The mental health of Indian inmate in Pakistani jail Sarabjit Singh is good, the Pakistan jail authorities have said.
Singh's lawyer Awais Sheikh had earlier written to the home department requesting a medical check-up for his client. After consulting the central jail superintendent,
the home department wrote a letter to Sheikh stating: No neurological deficit exists [in Singh's case].

Singh had earlier told his family he suspected the jail staff were poisoning him slowly because he refused to give in to the warden's pressure of conversion to Islam.

After Sarabjit's letter, which was widely publicised in the Indian media, Singh's lawyer was denied access to him. Sheikh then filed a petition in the Lahore high court, which allowed him one meeting with the prisoner. They are yet to meet.

Singh's family has filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking withdrawal of a pending petition, which demanded the case be reopened. There are hopes of Singh being released when PM Manmohan Singh visits Pakistan.
