US President Barack Obama has drawn flak for being sexist after he praised Indian-American attorney general Kamala Harris for her good looks at a fundraiser in California on Thursday.
“She happens to be by far the best-looking attorney general in the country — Kamala Harris is
here,” he said.
To be fair, he also praised her work, calling her brilliant, tough and “exactly what you’d want in anybody who is administering the law”.
But some sections of US society termed him sexist.
“Obama in need of gender-sensitivity training,” wrote a New York Magazine writer.
The Republican National Committee tweeted: “Not awkward and perfectly fine for him to say, right?”
However, he was not short of supporters.
“Obama was right about Kamala Harris,” wrote a Washington Post blogger, a sentiment echoed on Twitter.
Harris was born to Jamaican-American father Donald Harris and Indian-American mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris who hails from Chennai.
