It appears US President Donald Trump has made another gaffe. Trump referred to the governor of the American territory, US Virgin Islands, as the President.

“I will tell you I left Texas and I left Florida and I left Louisiana and I went to Puerto Rico and I met with the President of the Virgin Islands,” said Trump.

The US Virgin Islands is one of the unincorporated territories of the US that is located off the mainland. It is one of the five inhabited US territories along with Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. Except for some in American Samoa, people in these territories are US citizens. The territories elect their governments.

He made the error twice, saying again: “The Virgin Islands and the President of the Virgin Islands, these are people that are incredible people, they suffered gravely and we’re be there, we’re going to be there, we have really, it is not even a question of a choice.”

He was talking about Hurricane Irma hitting the US Virgin Islands first, followed by Hurricane Maria.

Many Twitter users pointed out that Trump is the President of the Virgin Islands, while some said with disbelief that the name of the territory “literally” has ‘US’ in it. Others said Trump’s gaffe reflected how mainland American felt about its territories.

Trump has often baffled experts and critics with his unfiltered tweets; some of which have featured inventions such as ‘covfefe’ that have become longstanding memes and sparked speculations about hidden meanings.

Here’s a look at some of the hilarious reactions:
