In his first visit to Pakistan after 18 months, Afghan president Hamid Karzai was unable to get a firm assurance from Islamabad that it would release all Afghan prisoners who are not facing criminal charges, a term used to describe those detained for links to the Afghan Taliban.

PM Nawaz Sharif is believed to have assured the Afghan president of Pakistan’s all out support in bringing Taliban to the dialogue table and also held a detailed discussion on the release of Taliban prisoners.

Earlier‚ both countries signed a pact to promote volume of trade and strengthen bilateral economic relations.
