Over 19: Dilshan hits the winning boundary as Sri Lanka complete a six-wicket win. Fielding cost Afghanistan there.
Over 18: 12 off it. 143/4
Over 17: A six and four from Mathews. 131/4
Over 16: 7 off the over and Kapugedera’s wicket. 120/4
15.1 Mohammad Nabi to Dilshan, OUT
That is clearly gone. No need for the third umpire there. Low full toss outside off, Dilshan drives it back and Nabi deflects it onto the non-striker’s stumps with Kapu just making his way back after backing up. Another clever piece of fielding to keep Afghanistan in it
Over 15: Big over for Sri Lanka, 14 off it. 113/3
Over 14: 7 off the over. 99/3
Over 13: 7 off the over and Perera’s wicket. 92/3
12.1 Samiullah Shenwari to Dilshan, OUT
Great fielding by Shahzad, has he produced a wicket? The third umpire is called for but Perera looks in by a whisker or two. No, says the third umpire. He has given it out. Not so sure about that decision. I’d have given it not out.
Over 12: 8 off Nabi. 85/2
Over 11: 6 off Shenwari. 77/2
Over 10: A big, straight six from Perera in that over. 71/2
Over 9: 6 off the over and Thirimanne’s wicket. 60/2
8.4 Rashid Khan to Thirimanne, OUT
Bowled him. Rashid’s legbreak induces the inside edge, which clatters into the stumps. Thirimanne was struggling to pick the variations, and wasn’t able to rotate the strike either. Slightly flatter from Rashid outside off and Thirimanne throws his hands at it, away from his body
Over 8: 10 off Nabi. 54/1
Over 7: 3 off Rashid. 44/1
Over 6: A wicket maiden in Nabi’s first over. 41/1
5.2 Mohammad Nabi to Chandimal, OUT, gone
Nabi does it. Stanikzai goes to his main bowler and gets rewarded. Nabi may have seen Chandi advancing and shortened the length. Chandimal goes for a big heave but doesn’t get it off the middle, it lobs up off the inside half and lodges in midwicket’s hands, who takes it over his head
Over 5: 6 off Dawlat. 41/0
Over 4: Two boundaries from Dilshan off Hassan. 35/0
Over 3: Two sixes from Dilshan, including a Dil scoop. 25/0
Over 2: Two off Hassan. 12/0
Over 1: A four and six from Chandimal off Karim’s first over. Sri Lanka 10/0
Led by captain Asghar Stanikzai’s brilliant 47-ball 62, Afghanistan posted 153/7 in their World Twenty20 main-draw encounter against Sri Lanka at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Thursday.
After Stanikzai won the toss and opted to bat first, the Afghans were pegged back by the loss of early wickets, with the score at 51/4 in the 11th over.
Big hitting from Stanikzai in the death overs, assisted by Samiullah Shenwari’s 14-ball 31and Noor Ali Zadran’s 23-ball 20, helped the Afghans to a competitive total.
For the Lankans, Thisara Perera took three wickets for 33 runs and Rangana Herath chipped in with two wickets for 24.
