After losing the toss and being put in to bat, England started well but then slowed down due to wickets falling at key moments, their score stuck at 99/3 at the end of 15 overs.
Big hitting from Buttler, aided by contributions from Jason Roy, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan, helped the Englishmen pile on 72 runs in the last five overs.
For Sri Lanka, spinner Jeffrey Vandersay was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets and conceding 26 runs in his four overs.
