Ravichandran Ashwin: The spin wizard of Team India
The right-arm off-spinner became a big find with his carrom ball and was soon making waves in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings.
Ravichandran Ashwin has been arguably Chennai’s 21st century poster-boy.
The right-arm off-spinner became a big find with his carrom ball and was soon making waves in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings.
However, his talents had been evident when playing for Tamil Nadu – of which Chennai is the capital – in the domestic circuit.
Ashwin can certainly credit his rise to the IPL, while he ended up with a World Cup winners’ medal in 2011, playing twice and picking up four wickets in India’s victorious campaign.
Having debuted in Tests in 2011, Ashwin is no stranger to turning a game around as he finished the 2013 series clean sweep against Australia with 29 wickets, including 12 on his home ground in the first Test.
He is seen as an able operator across all formats and is a key part of India’s spin department, alongside the likes of Ravindra Jadeja.
