Often seen as an able short-format finisher alongside Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Raina has struggled to translate his form into the Test arena since making his five-day debut in 2010.

The left-hander from Uttar Pradesh did make a century on Test debut - a 120 against Sri Lanka in Colombo - but has never found the kind of consistency required to hold down a regular place. Combined with his failings against the short ball, it means Raina has been put down as a short-format specialist by many.

He made his 50-over debut in 2005 though his first ODI hundred came in 2008 against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup, while he has found himself a key performer in the Indian Premier League.
