Ten people have been killed on Wednesday when a Polish military transport aircraft crashed as it was coming in to land at an airport in the northwest of Poland, the local fire services told

AFP.

The Spanish-built CASA transporter was approaching the West Pomeranian town of Miroslawiec , site of a Polish air force base, when it went down in woods close to the runway, igniting a fire.

"According to the military, there were six passengers and four crew on board," fire services spokesman Pael Fratczak told Poland's TVN24 all-news television channel before news of the fatalities emerged.
