Ten people died and several more were injured when a bus caught fire in the highlands of Fiji's main island of Viti Levu, reports said on Friday.
The bus carrying around 50 passengers caught fire near the southwestern town of Sigatoka on Thursday and the driver lost control, commercial radio reported.
Those killed were unable to escape the flames and several more were admitted to hospital suffering burns. Two of the injured were in a critical condition, a hospital spokesman said.
Seven females and three males were killed, including some children, police said according to the radio report.
The bus driver reportedly told police he lost control when the bus caught fire and it quickly filled with smoke as passengers tried to escape.
The passengers were travelling to the the tourist centre of Nadi in Viti Levu's west for a funeral, reports said.
