A roadside bomb struck a police vehicle in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar overnight, killing 10 policemen, their commander told AFP on Sunday.

Kandahar police chief Mutillah Khan blamed the bombing in the province's Shah Wali Kot district on the "enemies of Afghanistan" -- a phrase most Afghan officials use to refer to Taliban militants.

"A roadside bomb struck a police vehicle. There were 10 policemen in the car who were all killed," Khan told AFP.
