Ten policemen were killed on Saturday when the van they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck at Narsingdi district in Bangladesh, officials said.
"All the 10 policemen who were on the police van have died," a police official told PTI.
Four of them, including two officers in charge with ranks of inspector and a sub-inspector died on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries on their way to hospital, he said.
The state-run BSS news agency earlier said one of the critically injured police man was being treated at a medical facility in Dhaka but police said he too succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was rushed to hospital.
Narsingdi Police chief Akkas Uddin Bhuiyan said the fatal accident took place at about 10:45 am when the police team led by the two police inspectors was coming to Narsingdi Police Lines to join a briefing ahead of upcoming municipal elections in the district.
Bhuiyan said the truck collided head-on with a police pickup carrying team on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned the deaths and conveyed sympathy to members of the bereaved families while a senior government minister and the police chief visited the scene.
