Pakistani security forces and tribal militias killed 11 militants and captured 20 others during operations in the restive Malakand division and adjoining areas.
At least three rebels were killed during an exchange of fire on Wednesday between police and militants in Buner district, which is part of Malakand division. The militants lobbed grenades at a police vehicle, partially damaging it.
The policemen retaliated against the attack and shot dead three militants. Two of the militants belonged to Swat, TV news channels reported.
Six suspected militants were arrested during a search operation jointly carried out by security forces and police in Lower Dir district, officials said. The security personnel also seized heavy weapons, rockets, ammunition and documents on bomb-making during the search.
Eight militants were killed and 14 more captured during search and clearance operations in Malakand division, the military said in a statement.
Security forces killed three militants, including an expert in making bombs, during a search at Goratai in Swat. Another militant was killed and arms and ammunition were recovered during an operation near Barikot, also in Swat.
In Dir district, which too is part of Malakand division, four militants including a commander named Shakoor were killed during an operation by a lashkar or tribal militia and the Frontier Corps.
