12 insurgents killed in Afghanistan

Afghan troops backed by NATO forces killed a dozen Taliban fighters in southern Zabul province.

Afghan troops backed by NATO forces killed a dozen Taliban fighters in southern Zabul province, a senior military officer said on Wednesday.

There were no casualties on government forces, said General Rahmatullah Raufi, Corps Commander of Afghan troops in the southern provinces.

He said that the gunfire erupted Deh Chopan district on Tuesday, adding four Taliban militants were also captured.

Taliban have yet to make any comment.

More than 2,000 people mostly insurgents have lost their lives in violent incidents so far this year in Afghanistan.
