At least 14 militants of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network were killed and the head of the Iraqi press syndicate wounded in violence on Saturday, Iraqi officials and media reports said.
Joint US-Iraqi forces killed 14 Al-Qaeda militants in separate military operations in the city of Samra, some 125 km north of Baghdad, security sources said.
Sources said the forces had shot dead 10 of the militants in al-Tharthar area of western Samara, adding that six of them were Arabs. The other four were killed in different parts of the city.
The forces had confiscated a large weapons cache and detained four more militants in Samara suburbs, sources said.
Separately, the head of the Iraqi press syndicate, Shehab al-Tamimi, was severely injured when militants attacked him in central Baghdad, al-Arabiya news channel reported.
Al-Tamimi was shot in the chest on his way to visit a gallery in Baghdad's Waziriya district.
