At least 15 people have been killed and 100 wounded in two days of fighting between US-Iraqi forces and militiamen loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in Baghdad's Sadr City district, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

It is not known how many of the dead were soldiers, militiamen or civilians, said a ministry official speaking to reporters today on condition of anonymity because of operational security. The fighting started yesterday after Iraqi forces crackdown on Shiite militiamen in the southern city of Basra.
