A Dhaka court sentenced three members of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) for the 2005 explosions that killed 8 people and injured 40. One member was acquitted.
Fahima, alias Farzana, the widow of the JMB's second-in-command Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai, was sentenced to 10 years for the explosions at the offices of two cultural centres Udichi and Shatadal Shilpi Goshthi. Besides, two other JMB men were awarded a total of 31 years in jail, the Daily Star reported.
Judge Mohammad Masdar Hossain of the Speedy trial Tribunal-1 handed down the sentence in presence of the convicts in a packed courtroom on Sunday.
The court acquitted fugitive JMB member Yunus Ali as his involvement with the bomb blasts was not proved.
Bangla Bhai, who also figured in this case, was hanged along with five top JMB leaders in February last year for killing two judges in 2004.
