Twenty-six students were killed and at least 78 others were injured on Monday night in a bus accident when they were returning from a picnic in eastern Pakistan, officials said.
The accident took place near Kalar Kahar town, a tourist destination about 125 km from Islamabad. The students, from Millat Grammar School in Faisalabad city, were returning from a picnic in the town, Xinhua reported.
Police said the driver lost control of the overloaded vehicle when taking a turn. The bus was carrying over a 100 students although it had a capacity of only 72 people.
The injured were shifted to hospitals in Chakwal, some 25 km from Kalar Kahar, police officer Malik Ehsan said. Hospital officials said 26 injured were in a critical condition.
