A Mexican official says a federal police helicopter flying to a prison crashed in Veracruz state on Thursday, killing three people on board and injuring another three.
Attorney General spokesman Ricardo Najera said the helicopter had 11 people aboard, including six officers, two inmates and an official from the country's organised crime investigation unit.
Veracruz public safety spokeswoman Nohemi Guzman said three passengers were killed but did not provide the identities of the victims or the people on board.
The helicopter was going to a Veracruz prison in Villa Aldama. It wasn't immediately known who the prisoners were.
The crash took place on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities said it appears weather may have contributed to the crash.
