At least 30 people were killed and 70 wounded in a car bombing in a market area in a town in southern Iraq on Wednesday, a hospital official said.
"Ten men and one woman were killed," the hospital director in the nearby city of Nasiriyah told AFP on condition of anonymity. "There are also 40 wounded."
The attack occurred in Batha, a town west of Nasiriyah in the province of Dhiqar.
"Children and women are among the dead," said Batha town mayor Ali Fahad. "We are now transporting the casualties to the general hospital in Nasiriyah."
