The quake occurred 63 kilometers east of Amatignak Island yesterday, Alaska at a depth of 40 kilometers, said the US Geological Service, which monitors earthquakes worldwide, at 2340 GMT.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement that a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected and nor was there a tsunami threat to Hawaii.
