world Updated: Apr 15, 2012 18:08 IST

Lawmakers joined security forces in firing on Taliban militants who tried to storm parliament during a wave of attacks in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, an MP said.

"Some MPs including me and my bodyguards fought the militants, who have taken over a six storey building in front of parliament," which was in session, Mohammad Naeem Lalai told AFP.

"They have now stopped firing at parliament and have started firing at (Second Vice- President Mohammad Karim) Khalili's house nearby, he said.
