The Afghan Taliban have denied having bases in Pakistani territory and said the false campaigns are aimed at distracting the attention from their capability and strong resistance they pose.

The Taliban rebels said they have neither bases nor they need one in Pakistan or any other place out of Afghanistan due to their control over vast Afghan areas to carry out their operations.

US Defence Department said the Taliban control 11 of the 34 Afghan provinces, while some analysts put it at 72 per cent of the Afghan territory.

The Taliban reiterated Thursday that their operations are not aimed at causing damages and the new strategy of US President Barack Obama of sending another 30,000 troops is not going to be a solution.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Kabul Kart Eikenberry said that his country will open two consulates in Afghanistan for the first time.
