Al Qaeda plotter says Saudi royal family funded 9/11

Zacarias Moussaoui

Al-Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui has said that extremely famous officials of the Saudi royal family helped fund the 9/11 attacks. According to BBC, Moussaoui is imprisoned in Colorado for his role in the attacks.

His statement came to the fore when it was filed in court as a response to a Saudi bid to drop the suit. Saudi Arabia declined all accusation saying he was a deranged criminal with no credibility.

Moussaoui was imprisoned weeks before the 9/11 attacks over immigrations charges and was in jail at the time of the attacks.

While dismissing the claims made by Zacarias Moussaoui, sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the 9/11 attacks, the Saudi embassy in Washington in a statement also pointed out that the allegations have been contradicted by the 9/11 Commission.

“There is no evidence to support Zacarias Moussaoui’s claim. The September 11 attack has been the most intensely investigated crime in history and the findings show no involvement by the Saudi government or Saudi officials. As confirmed by the 9/11 Commission, there is ‘no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or senior Saudi officials individually funded the organization (Al-Qaeda),” the embassy statement said.
