At least 51 civilians are among the victims of a massive Israeli blitz on Hamas-run Gaza Strip that has so far killed more than 310 people, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees said on Monday.
"We have been compiling a list of civilian casualties from medical and hospital sources," said Christopher Gunness, spokesman for the UNRWA agency. "We have 51 confirmed civilian casualties including women and children."
The massive Israeli bombardment of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip has so far killed 312 Palestinians wounded more than 1,400 others, according to the head of Gaza emergency services, Moawiya Hassanein.
Most of the victims appear to be members of Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist movement that has run Gaza since June 2007, according to Palestinian medics.
Israel unleashed on Saturday a massive air campaign against Hamas targets in retaliation for ongoing rocket fire from its Gaza Strip stronghold, one of the most densely populated places on earth.
