Australian Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd claimed victory on Saturday in a national election, ending 11 years of conservative government.
Rudd, 50, a former diplomat, has promised to pull Australian combat troops out of Iraq and sign the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.
"Today Australia has looked to the future," Rudd told cheering supporters.
