Bahrain police are investigating the death of Indian national Satheesh Kumar Pettarveedu Unnikrishnan, who apparently stabbed himself to death after an argument with one of his roommates.
30-year-old Unnikrishnan, a resident of Cochin in Kerala, reportedly committed suicide soon after a heated argument with his his roommate at his accommodation in East Riffa area of Bahrain.
Police were called after someone living in the same building heard loud screams coming from one of the flats.
Initial reports suggested Unnikrishnan was killed by one of his roommates after a fight, the report said.
However, Interior Ministry sources confirmed that he stabbed himself to death at around 9pm on Friday.
"Unnikrishnan's four roommates were taken into custody for questioning and further investigation," they told the Gulf Daily News newspaper.
"But initial investigations revealed that he stabbed himself following a heated argument with his roommate."
Unnikrishnan had worked as a security guard for the Manama-based company Securicore for two years.
General Manager Murshad Mohammed Al Fawaz said he was still trying to understand what happened.
"According to the information I have, Unnikrishnan came from the morning shift and was very upset and distressed for some reason. He had an argument with a colleague over something. Someone from the building called our operations supervisor and told him about the problem. By the time he went there, Unnikrishnan was dead already."
Unnikrishnan, who is single, leaves behind his parents and a brother, who works in Qatar. His company is planning to repatriate his body once the police investigation is complete.
