Brangelina zindabad, say Pakistanis

world Updated: Jun 21, 2009 15:39 IST

Pakistanis are writing reams to thank Hollywood power couple Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt for donating a million dollars to assist people displaced by the military operations against the Taliban in the country's northwest.

The celebrity couple made the donation through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which they established to assist in humanitarian crises around the world.

"As Pakistanis we thank them for this generous gesture. As Pakistanis let us also view this as a reminder of our own responsibilities to reach out to and assist our own," wrote Adil Najam on his website All Things Pakistan.

"Thank you, Angelina Jolie. For keeping this issue alive in the international media. Thank you, for making your donation at the right time - a time when attention had just begun to be diverted. Thank you, for reminding all of us - Pakistani or not - that this is a human crisis before it is a national crisis," he said.

"Even as our Pakistani heartstrings are pulled by the plight of the Swat IDPs (internally displaced persons) because they are our own, let us never forget the most important lesson of all - they, and all of us, are humans before we are anything else. Thank you, Angelina Jolie, for that reminder."

'Other Pakistan', another popular website, decided to confer the 'Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Pakistan's Angel)' on Jolie.
