Britain's military says a UK soldier has been shot dead by insurgents in southern Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defense says the soldier from 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was shot Friday during a foot patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the soldier but said his family has been notified.
Britan has about 9,500 troops in Afghanistan, most based in the restive southern province.
The death brings to 397 the number of British personnel who have died in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001.
