US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns, whose four-day visit to India starts today, will pitch for resumption of dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad.
"We would support more dialogue between the two countries," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters at his daily press briefing on Tuesday.
"I am sure that Under Secretary Burns will talk about this issue among the many issues that he has on his agenda," Kelly said.
Burns, the first senior official of the Obama administration to visit India after the recent Lok Sabha polls, is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and hold meetings with Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon and other senior government officials.
India has suspended the composite dialogue process with Pakistan in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks in November last year.
