Russian news agencies are reporting the deaths of at least 26 people in a bus crash in a remote southwestern region of Uzbekistan.
The reports say a bus with 50 people on board crashed into an excavator parked by the side of a highway in the former Soviet republic in Central Asia.
The RIA-Novosti and Interfax news agencies cited an Interior Ministry spokesman in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, as saying at least 26 people died and more than 20 were injured in the crash early on Saturday.
The cause of the crash was not given. They said it occurred in the Kashkadaryinskaya region south of Samarkand.
The duty officer who answered the phone at the Interior Ministry said he had no information.
