Bush leaves for G8 meeting in Japan

President George W. Bush departed Washington on Saturday for the G8 meeting in Japan, where he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda as well as leaders of Brazil, China, Germany, Russia, and other major countries.

Bush's plane departed Washington at around 12:30 pm (1430 GMT) for the northern Japanese resort of Toyako, where he said he will press for progress on global efforts to fight climate change, promote free trade, and push G8 leaders to make good on pledges to help Africa fight HIV/AIDS and other illnesses.
