Cambridge to honour Amartya Sen, Bill Gates

Celebrated Indian Nobel laureate Amartya Sen will be awarded a honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Cambridge, where he served as the Master of Trinity College for six years.

Celebrated Indian Nobel laureate Amartya Sen will be awarded a honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Cambridge, where he served as the Master of Trinity College for six years.

Sen is among 12 distinguished individuals from across the globe to be honoured by the ancient seat of learning on June 12, the University announced on Wednesday.

Sen, a professor of Economic and Philosophy at the Harvard University, was the Master of Trinity College from 1998 to 2004.

The other awardees include philanthropists Bill Gates and Melinda Gates, who will be honoured with the honorary Doctorate of Law, and Prince Karim Al-Hussayni, the Aga Khan (Doctor of Divinity), Baroness (Shirley) Williams of Crosby (Doctor of Law), Elizabeth Blackburn (Doctor of Science), Wallace Broecker (Doctor of Science), Sir Peter Crane, (Doctor of Science), Wang Gungwu (Doctor of Letters), Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (Doctor of Music), Allan Brigham (Master of Arts) and Sir Miles Hunt-Davis (Master of Arts).
