A suicide car bombing killed at least 26 Afghans, including 13 policemen, in Gereshk district of the southern Helmand province in Afghanistan on Monday, district chief Abdul Manas told Xinhua.
The bombing, which occurred at around 6:30 pm (0200 GMT), also injured 57 others, he said.
The incident happened at a police checkpoint when six to seven police vehicles had gathered and many policemen were sitting and chatting there, Manas said, adding an investigation has been ordered.
Helmand has been a hotbed of Taliban militants, who attack government targets and foreign troops frequently.
Over 4,400 persons, most of them Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
