At a meeting with a visiting delegation of Indian university heads, Cherie Blair, renowned lawyer and wife of former British prime minister Tony Blair, stressed the importance of educating girls. “Educating a girl leads to educating a whole community,” she stressed.

Blair complimented the leader of the delegation, Mumbai's sheriff and a leading academician Dr Indu Shahani for her initiative in trying to link educational institutions in Mumbai with British ones like Oxford, London School of Economics and Imperial College. Under the tie-up, courses taught in these British universities would also be taught in Mumbai colleges and examinations held. Successful candidates would get the British university's degree
